6 Digital Marketing Principles

Digital Marketing is a huge part of the new upcoming world of marketing. The advancements in technology and level of exposure we have to digital marketing, it is no surprise more and more companies are using this platform.

There are 6 guidelines to digital marketing.

  1. Marketers must be sensitive to consumer concerns about privacy. For example imagine when you see an advertisement on Facebook page or Instagram page that said “HELLO *insert your name*! come buy this”. How creeped out, invaded and uncomfortable would you feel knowing the brand knows your personal name and details.
  2. Consumers are more receptive to digital ads from marketers they trust. We are more likely to engage with advertisements that seem familiar too us. however there is a thin line between innovation and unfamiliarity.
  3. Consumers more likely to respond to digital ads for products that are relevant to them. Sponsored ads on Instagram will target people who have had similar searches…  I’ll be looking at a makeup or cosmetic page, and a sponsored ad for Alya skin will appear.
  4. Approaches that incorporate interactivity are more likely to be effective. Snapchat uses this principle through interactive advertisements such as quizzes and voting adverts that allow the customer to engage with the advertisement!
  5.  Entertaining marketing messages have a higher chance of success. The more capturing an advertisement is, they higher chance you will look at it! We are captured towards these advertisements through their sound, colours and movement.
  6. New media messages need to build the brand to be effective. For example, Nike has had multiple digital marketing advertisements over the past few years, however they have always been able to link back to the origin of the brand and keep a consistent flow throughout each marketing campaign.

Kylie Cosmetics Social Media engagement success!

Kylie Jenner is not only the best dressed at the Met Gala 2019!

She is also not just one of the worlds most talked about socialists, but she holds one if Instagram’s highest followings, is Fortune 100’s youngest billionaire, and is the owner and voice behind her company Kylie Cosmetics, and now Kylie Skin.

Kylie Cosmetics has over 20.4 million followers on Instagram and growing. But how does this company obtain and maintain this level of following through social media channels. I decided Kylie Cosmetics would be the perfect example to help explain measuring what matters on social media.

Social Media is a very power tool for marketing in todays technology driven society. however it is finding how to engage your audience and customers though these social medial channels that many company’s find challenging.

There are three main measured to measuring what matters on social media including the following metrics; Growth and engagement, Content strategy and Audience Quality.

Growth and Engagement metrics analyses how engaged not how many. Kylie Cosmetics posts tutorials, product information, reviews, and shows real people using the products, they don’t post irrelevant posts. For example, Kylie Cosmetics has the perfect platform to post gossip on the Kardashians to gain engagement, HOWEVER they do not do this. They keep their content very professional and relevant to Kylie Cosmetics.

Content Strategy metrics measures if strategies are working, and are people sharing content. Kylie cosmetics has this sharing and success in strategies through customers reposting and sharing products and personal tutorials using the products.

This reposting and sharing of products leads us into the next measure of what matters on social media, being Audience Quality Metrics. These reposts and shares show loyalty within the Kylie Cosmetic customers.

Basically, what I am demonstrating this blog post, is the power and importance of knowing what matters on social media.

It is an art to figure out exactly what your audience and customers what to see, and to then uphold a consistent following is the next step!

So my question to all of you… what captures your engagement when on social media??? and Why???

We can WEAR TECHNOLOGY!

Although todays society already has their phones attached to their hips, who would have thought we could literally WEAR our technology!!

Wearable technology is a huge growing trend that is being seen more and more throughout society. Wearable technology is electronic technologies or computers that are incorporated into terms of clothing and accessories which can be comfortably worn on the body.

Wearable technology means that due to their smaller screens they need to have glancable quick content where data is refined. Wearable technology must have immediate attention and response and have location-specific promotion opportunities.

The Apple watch, Samsung galaxy watch, Fossil sport, Fitbit, Google glasses, and the ANZ ring are only some of the wearable technologies that you may be aware of.

These wearable technologies allow for data collection, can have trackable technology that can be linked to health and fitness. They also can have small sensors that allow them to connect with your smart phone and mobile devices!!

The ANZ ring allows people to use their “Touch and Go” credit card action, through the simple, small and refined ANZ ring!

The Apple Watch does much more than just tell the time, it allows people to send text messages, make phone calls and track their fitness through the small device that just sits on their wrist.

These Wearable technologies are sure to go and become even more popular and known in our society.

However, my question is will these wearable technologies affect society for the good or for the bad????

Your Mobile Moments

Mobiles. Our “forth screen”. A location for gathering information, communicating, purchasing, learning, guiding, humouring, gaming, messaging, talking, emailing, and so many other evolving uses.

The power of Mobile SmartPhones in our day and age has such an important impact on so many moments in our day. And in these moments we may not even be aware that the first place we go to is our smartphone!

These moments include I-WANT-TO-KNOW Moments; where we want to explore and research something, without necessarily being ready to make a purchase. Where we want to find inspiration and information about either a product, brand, activity or service. These I-WANT-TO-KNOW moments can be triggered and satisfied at any time and can be about basically anything! Personally I know I turn straight to my phone to learn more or double check if information is correct.

I-WANT-TO-GO Moments have a huge impact on where I decide to go! These moments are when we are looking for places to purchase a product that we desire. I always find myself googling “cafes near me” when I feel like brunching, or go onto Instagram to explore cafes I would love to visit. My digital life connects to my physical life as it gives me a taste of what to expect before I actually arrive!

I-WANT-TO-BUY Moments happen to all of us when we know we want to purchase something, however we need help deciding where and how to buy it. Before I purchase an item in store, I will always check if there are advantages to buying the product online (e.g. different colours, gifts with purchase). My Smart phone also allows me to use Apps such as Instagram and Facebook to read reviews on the product I am wanting which helps me make a judgement.

Lastly, I-WANT-TO-DO Moments is one of my personal favourites. I am always finding myself Googling “how to” add a table on Word, or “how to” poach an egg, etc. And I seem like I am not the only one, each year the “how to” searches on YouTube increase by 70%!!!

We go thorough so many moments in our lives and most of the time we don’t even realise how much we rely and use our smartphones to help us get through them!

Mobiles are our personal assistants, guiding us through our wanting to know moments, our want to go moments, our want to buy moments and our want to do moments.

So take a moment every once and a while, and thank your mobile! And also comment which I-WANT-TO Moment you find yourself using your mobile the most!

The Power of Stories towards Brands

The power of story telling has been apart of our lives from a young age. From when our parents read us our first picture book the power of stories has been a huge part of our lives. Story telling is a shared means of communication, education, cultural preservation and instilling moral values.

However, this simple idea of telling your family member or your friend a story can have a huge impact of brands and brand reputation.

I am very sure we have all been there. Gossiping to your best friend about a bad customer service experience, or raving about the restaurant you visited on the weekend. Stories are a way that people share their past experiences with each other, and they have the power to change how people perceive brands.

They impact of stories is just one of the 6 steps found in the STEPPS Model- Principles of contagiousness. Stories become effective because they are personal and trustworthy. They are real life experiences. Stories are also easily remembered. Personally, if someone is telling me a load of information all at one time, I will have the tendency to forget half of what they have said. HOWEVER, if they are telling me a story about how amazing their Village Cinema Gold Class experience was, or they are complaining because the customer service in Louis Vuitton was bad, then I am more likely to hold onto these stories.

Since stories are such an easy way for brands to encage with customers through word of mouth, then it is important for them to make sure they have a clear brand message. Having a clear brand message will ensure that when a brand is bought up in a story, their message is clear and will naturally be highlighted.

So next time you lovely people go to relay a story about your experience amazing at Mr Miyagi from Saturday night (YUM!) , or complain about how slow the service at Hoyts Lux was last month, think about how you easily and unaware you are, that these words can have on the Brand.

Why do you use social media?

In 2019 is was expected that 2.77 billion people worldwide would be social media users. In 2017, 71% of internet users worldwide were social network users. In Australia, 46% of social media users use Instagram. And Snapchat alone almost doubled its usage from 22% to 40% in 2018. Why are these social media platforms becoming so popular? And more importantly… Why are we using them?

Think about it, if you have social media, why do you use it? It seems like such a simple question, but there are multiple reasons that we may not even realise to explain why people all around the globe use social media.

People participate in social media for 2 main reason; Rationality and Emotion. Rationality motives include entertainment and information, where as emotion motives targets social community.

The entertainment side to social media is seen through the ability to engage in entertainment events, watch videos, play games and follow celebs, bloggers or social media personalities. Comment what entertains you on social media?!

In regards to information this is seen as a source knowledge sharing, gaining and advocacy. We may not realise but we intake tones of information by just scrolling through instagram for 10 minutes. Information regarding:

  • Research for future purchases
  • Service and products reviews
  • Brands reviews and details
  • Event details
  • News and current events can all be obtained though the use of social media.

The emotional side to why people use social media explains the importance of social communities, and the more personal aspects to social media use. Social media allows people to connect, share and chat with their friends and family from all around the world. Personally social media has allowed me to contact family members from the other side of the world, and interact in an easy and FREE way! The ability to share photos and videos allows people to express themselves and share their insights. Building social communities is a very popular aspect to the more emotional part of social media, as we have the ability to connect and meet people from all around the globe!

In just the past 5 years we have seen an increase in the usage of social media worldwide. Reasons to use social media depend on the individuals and what they want out of the many social media platforms out.

For me, social media mainly allows me to be apart of social communities and gaining information. So, tell me…why do you use social media?
